This was written before I got OB-6 and Behringer 2600. Most of this was planned before I even bought those. I didn’t take photo of synth. You can find many online. Picture shows my Pulse 2 device panel. It shows what the synth is capable of. I think it is the best monophonic analog synth for the money and size at the moment. At least if you don’t need keyboard.
You get three oscillators, two envelopes, two lfos and multi mode filter. On right side you see eight slot modulation matrix. It has eurorack logic module like sources and targets which give you quite complex modulations if you like. All three oscillators are different. First has saw, triangle, two different pulse wave mode and different unison/paraphony modes. Second has saw, triangle and three pulse wave modes. Alternative pulse wave modes give some interesting sounds. Third has square, saw, triangle, external and feedback. It can be routed to mixer or be audio rate modulation source for three different targets. Both envelopes have own trigger modes and can be looping envelopes. On effects side it has overdrive with two modes.
When I said I have synths which can do complex sounds I was talking about this synth. Pulse 2 can go to eurorack territory with its possibilities. All possibilities wouldn’t matter if it didn’t sound good. It does and it is really versatile. I remember seeing video someone making quite convincing classical music with it. With drive and feedback it can get really dirty too. Downside is it doesn’t have keyboard, programming it is menu diving and it is not good for live tweaking the sounds. It is really good when used from DAW with something which gives you easy access to all midi parameters. It doesn’t take much room and sounds amazing.
I don’t get why this isn’t mentioned as often as something like Novation Bass Station 2. I know Bass Station 2 has keyboard, is more tweakable live and is easier for someone new to synths. For homestudio usage Pulse 2 is more versatile and takes less room. After latest firmware updates Bass Station 2 has become really good. I will probably write similar post about it later. But I think Pulse 2 is better for my usage.
Six voice polyphonic version of this would be amazing. I don’t find paraphonic modes that useful. Paraphonic isn’t done in way other monophonic synths do it by playing different pitch with different oscillator. I don’t know how it is done but this gives four and eight voice paraphony.
