You can see from picture I have made some changes. Probably need to straighten few pedals. I will do that when I have last pedal changes with in few weeks. After getting Polychrome and playing with it I have quite solid idea what to have on board. T2 and Obscura have to go. Lost Highway will stay. I think I will need it even with Polychrome and Night Wire. Each will have their own usage. Polychrome and Night Wire can do close to what Lost Highway does but not good enough for me to remove Lost Highway from the board.
I tried Obscura but it is too frustrating to use if you want tap tempo and turn it on and off all the time. Same switch acts as tap tempo and turn pedal on and off. You have press it for five seconds to go to tap tempo mode and come off from it. Changing delay type also turns tap tempo mode off. Wouldn’t be issue if it was only delay, always on and you use only one delay type. But on this board it is third delay. This is the reason why I want dedicated tap tempo on my delays. Not yet sure if I will replace it with Expression Ramper or Walrus D1. Most likely with D1 since I want this to be do everything board and D1 can do almost everything I can want from delay and I can automate delay’s parameters in DAW if I need something like that. It is not analog delay then but I won’t be doing that all the time.
I moved T2 before distortion pedals. T2 is weird pedal which works only on pretty specific situations. It is reverb with complex modulations. Each reverb type has weird modulations but you have very limited control. If you are lucky pedal has modulation that works in situation you are using it. You just have to try different reverb types. If you find working reverb type it is really good pedal. If you don’t it is pretty useless. It is pretty useless in front of distortion. I already replaced it with Digitech’s Supernatural which works much better in that position.
This is first time I have even thought of having reverb before distortion. First tests have been interesting. I think before distortion reverb has to quite specific to work. At least you need to know what you are doing. I didn’t know but I got some interesting sounds out from Supernatural before distortion. Have to study this further but I might have one reverb before distortion. Question is should I have one of three delays there too.
Yes. Polychrome. Got one. It is really big step up from Neo Mistress. Can’t say much more about it. I have mainly compared it to Lost Highway in order to decide if I will keep Lost Highway. My favorite feature so far is mix knob. I have kept is so low Polychrome only adds slight color to the sound. I have often forgotten it is on. It doesn’t sound like flanger. It just adds slight flanger color. I haven’t even tried to put mix to vibrato side and it is already my favorite feature. Not to say other features are bad. I just haven’t had flanger with mix knob. Having it makes flanger much more usable. Best thing about getting Polychrome was now I have modulation pedals which do everything I want and I don’t need to look for another.
Only two more pedals to get and maybe some order adjustment and the pedalboard is complete.
