This is third and last volume of Blade Runner 2019. It concludes Blade Runner 2019 story arc. Adventures of main character continues in Blade Runner 2029. Don’t know why the name changed. Yes the story arc ends here but it didn’t meant the name of the book had to change. Have ti get first volume of the new book before I can say anything about it.
I have liked first two volumes much. That doesn’t change with third volume. First volume had new story with new characters in Blade Runner movie’s world. Second volume took that story to Off-World. Third volume brings it back to Los Angeles but time is the time between the Blade Runner movies. Few short movies were released before Blade Runner 2049. One of those happened between first volume and third volume. Blackout of 2022 have destroyed data of replicants and manufacturing of replicants if forbidden. Ash comes back to Los Angeles to stop the man who gave her the mission which started the whole story.
Each volume has had less references to Blade Runner movie than previous one. This one has one similar scene to the movie and it visits one site of movie and one similar to Blade Runner 2049. Some panels are quite close to frames of both movies. Visuals and story move to in between movies time. Trade collects free comic book day comic and last four issues of Blade Runner 2019. Free comic book day comic is separated from issues but four issues create one continuous comic. There is nothing between issues to let you know issues changed. If there was I didn’t notice it. I read those four issues one sitting. I started to wonder how long one issue lasts and realized I was over halfway point at that point.
Don’t know how well this works for non-fans of the movies. For movie fans this is pretty much must read. Only problem is it leaves you wanting more. Well. There was another problem There is one setting which doesn’t make too much sense when you start to think about logistics. But it is over quite fast and doesn’t have much impact on the story.
