It is getting harder to get something to say about these. At least these teach not to spend too much time on drawing and concentrating what is important to get message across. Original idea was to draw something similar as flame drawing but wanted to do something different. I try to keep these minimalistic and simple. Second day in row when I had to find time to draw something for Inktober. There were other things to do. Would be easier to draw these in advance. This was given most effort of these so far. Plan was to keep this simple and minimalistic like others but I felt it needed more. Still trying to figure out how black and white works. I don’t like drawing flowers, apples or bowls or anything like that. Not sure if I understood word correctly. Got this after googling the word and briefly checking what others have done. Watched Mike Mignola Drawing Monsters yesterday. I was one of Kickstarter backers. Wanted to express my inner Mignola but today’s prompt wasn’t best possible for it. Inktober takes some time but I made some decisions for home studio. The music one. At least for near future. Gave up thought of new eurorack case. Got quite far from plan I posted earlier. Didn’t want to spend lot of money to system which basically do what other gear does little differently. After all those krell music videos I thought more west coast oriented system makes more sense. Thing with good and versatile west coast oriented modules is they are pretty expensive. Setup I came up with costed around 5000 euros. Even smaller ones started to go over two and half thousand. I don’t want to have partially empty case for several months or up to a year.
Started to think why I wanted the system and what I couldn’t do with gear that I had or was getting in near future. Last part being Make Noise Maths. Thing I was missing was sequencer I could clock with function generators’ end of cycle trigger. Except that I wasn’t missing that. I didn’t remember I had that. Two of those to be exact. I tested with Minibrute 2. Put clock into gate mode which advance one step with each pulse and it was just what I wanted. Beatstep Pro has same clock receive mode. After I get Maths I can have two synths bleeping at random intervals. I was considering new René for this reason. Turns out I don’t need it.
There is small problem how these fit to my table. Minibrute 2 is just little bit too big but Minibrute 2S is not. And there is black version of it available at the moment. Beatstep Pro should be easier to fit. If I can’t make it fit there is 0-Control. Rather have Beatstep Pro with quantized notes than unquantized 0-Control but not sure I have room for it.
My eurorack system was Minibrute 2 and full 6U Rackbrute. Looks like all except René classic and Lifeforms SV-1 and Double Helix won’t make it to new setup but everything else does in some form. I am glad I found new use for Minibrute 2 and managed to fit it to setup. I might make Minibrute 2 goes West Coast video next weekend. It has wavefolder and somewhat complex oscillator with linear and exponential FM. So it is half way there already.
I should be getting rest of the stuff next week. After that I should have everything I wanted to have at this point. Small changes might come like getting bigger rack that fits audio interfaces and BARP 2600 but main elements should be there next week. Unless I can’t make enough room for Beatstep Pro and I need to get 0-Control. Talking about room there is enough room for making music but not enough room to have camera filming it. So I guess I won’t be making those playing your synths videos. Didn’t think about videos when I planned home studio. There is so little room I don’t think I could have arrange it in way there was room for cameras too. At least without sacrificing other things I want to do in my flat.
