Lonely Lighthouse

Last week I spent more time on home studio than usually. I made some changes which lead to trouble shooting and learning new setup. When it came time to make music for this video I thought I could do something easier this time. I added Lyra-8 to setup. When I play with it without intention to record anything I can easily get something interesting from it.

It all changed when I started to set it up to make some music with it. It was much harder when you try to make something you can release with it. I wanted to try Wogglebug's frequency to voltage function and Strega's envelope follower. I couldn't go full chaos with Lyra-8.

This was quite good song for rearranged studio. None of the elements were possible before the rearrangement. Either something wasn't part of the studio or it couldn't be used like I use it here. I didn't plan it but I guess I wanted to explore new things I could do in studio and it lead to this. I will do these experimental songs from time to time now that I have both of my experimental synths (Lyra-8 and Strega) in setup. Eurorack can also be used for experimental music. Won't be forgetting more traditional music.

Forgotten Restaurant

This went all over the place. If you know music theory you may notice there are some weird key and chord changes. I played one part in wrong key when I composed this but it sounded good at that time. I kept it that way.

Stable Diffusion decided to try to use words of prompt in generated images. I used words forgotten restaurant in prompt. Stable Diffusion misspelled it quite a few different ways. I didn't fix them for this video since this is kind of demo. It is the mood that matters not the correct spelling.

Mysterious Man Walks In

This video was made and released 2024. I told in last post why I was behind the schedule here.

I start 2024 with bang. This is first video where I play bass and guitar. I have previously released music where I play them but this is first time on this channel. Had more time during holidays. Thought this is best time to try playing real instruments. It was smoother than I expected. Previously I have had issues with lag. Lag makes it harder to play. This time I didn't have such issues. Probably because I didn't use VSTs when playing like I did before.

Spent more time learning image generation. You can expect more images of people from now one and more variety on generated images.

Reverb from Another World

I got really stupid idea. What if you use different synth playing little bit different notes for reverb? It sounds like two different synths playing. Unless you made reverb quite dramatic. Original plan was to have one synth dry and another synth with 100% reverb as insert effect. it didn't work. I had to add delay for first synth to make is sound not so dry. This is why I managed to do with the stupid idea. I have one idea how it could work better. I might get back to this idea later.

This was last video 2023. Next video is first of 2024. That is why I write about 2024 in that post. I try to remember to post videos here as I post them to Youtube. This platform has one problem. I can’t create posts before I have released video in Youtube. For some reason linking video requires the video to be public when you write the post. I can’t write these posts when I schedule the videos.

T2: Eurorack Experiment

I was experimenting using same eurorack system on more than one track and getting effects from pedals. T2 in name comes from TC Electronic T2 reverb pedal I used. I have had the pedal for ages. I had forgotten it is stereo pedal. Someone posted picture of it to FB group. When I saw it had stereo in and out I had to find mine and test it.

Video is shorter than usually. I learned during experiment I should have planned this better. I could do only one track at the time and couldn't get back to track I did before unless I did almost everything again but little different. Another thing I learned was it is better to have effect pedals as external effects in DAW rather than record them into track. I would have changed effects little if I didn't need to do the whole patch and recording again.

After doing this I arranged my studio to have pedal board for few stereo effects and have them as external effects in DAW. That makes pedals more useful and give option to do effects later.

Euclidean Rhythm Study

Euclidean rhythm has appeared lately from two different places. First Elektron added Euclidean rhythms to Analog Rytm in last firmware update. Then Benge talked them in his latest Memetune program.

I wanted to try them myself. I don't know how to use Elektron's sequencers. So this is done in DAW and it isn't pure Euclidean rhythm. It is mix of that and Berlin school and other ideas I had. I also tried to place different instruments different distances.
