Giving You What You Want

I never know which videos get views and likes. Previous video was quite popular by my standards. I made eurorack to sound like Music Easel in it. In another popular video I made Minibrute 2S go experimental. What if I do both in same video? Minibrute 2S doesn't have low pass gate. So it can't get as close to Music Easel as eurorack. Tried to do Music Easel sound without limiting myself to what Music Easel can do. Sequence is eight step played randomly instead of five step of Music Easel. Second oscillator does FM and AM same time. With Music Easel you have to choose one. Whole signal chain is in Minibrute 2S. Buchla & Tiptop Audio's Source of Uncertainty and Quad Function Generator give random clock, envelope and random CV to various places.

Not Music Easel

Last week I binged Buchla Music Easel videos. It made me think if I could do what Music Easel can do with eurorack. Tried to make oscillators work like Music Easel's and keep the limitations of Music Easel. Oscillators, wave folder and low pass gate are different but I tried to use them like you can do with Music Easel. Reverb is from plugin. Sequence is from Make Noise 0-CTRL which let you have five step unquantized sequence like Music Easel.

I will revisit this idea in future with less limitations. After making this I got few ideas how to music easel with eurorack.

No Control 20240128

Got Make Noise 0-CTRL couple weeks ago. Wanted to do something with it. This is eurorack live performance using 0-CTRL. I try to get back to playing guitar now that we are past January. January was bit stressful. Had to keep these videos simpler which mean more experimental music.

Lonely Lighthouse

Last week I spent more time on home studio than usually. I made some changes which lead to trouble shooting and learning new setup. When it came time to make music for this video I thought I could do something easier this time. I added Lyra-8 to setup. When I play with it without intention to record anything I can easily get something interesting from it.

It all changed when I started to set it up to make some music with it. It was much harder when you try to make something you can release with it. I wanted to try Wogglebug's frequency to voltage function and Strega's envelope follower. I couldn't go full chaos with Lyra-8.

This was quite good song for rearranged studio. None of the elements were possible before the rearrangement. Either something wasn't part of the studio or it couldn't be used like I use it here. I didn't plan it but I guess I wanted to explore new things I could do in studio and it lead to this. I will do these experimental songs from time to time now that I have both of my experimental synths (Lyra-8 and Strega) in setup. Eurorack can also be used for experimental music. Won't be forgetting more traditional music.

Elektrik Autumn - instrumental music with Elektron's black boxes

Cubase 13 gave me proper workflow to work with Elektron's machines with DAW. There probably was better way before but now it clicked. This is not a dawless jam. Sequence comes from Cubase 13. Machines used were Analog Rytm, Analog Four and Digitone. Expect to hear more of them in future now when I can use them without hurdles I had before.

I think this is cyber synthesis patch but I am not sure

Patch was inspired by Benge's TMP-2-01 video. Not sure if I got concept of cyber synthesis correctly. This is based on my understanding of concept. I take sine wave from oscillator to sample & hold’s sample input. I trigger hold from Maths. Then I send sample & holds output to Maths and lower the range and send it to oscillators pitch and Maths function generator’s speed. Oscillator’s blade wave goes to low pass gate which is controlled by Maths. From low pass gate it goes to mixer. I use two oscillators like this. Addition to that I take output of both low pass gates to ring modulator. I mix ring modulator’s output in another mixer.

I watched Benge’s video after filming this. I couldn’t find anything breaking the rules on my patch. So I think this is cyber synthesis patch. It is lot like krell patch but not as random since it samples oscillator not noise.
