It was hard to find anything about this before I bought it. Frostbite is quite popular name and this isn’t the most popular Frostbite. It should be more popular. It is well made Mad Max on Ice. Joshua Williamson’s story is dark post-apocalyptic science fiction. Jason Shawn Alexander’s art makes this great. Would have made it great even with lesser story.
It is new ice age. There is pandemic called Frostbite which turns people into ice. Father and daughter might have cure for Frostbite but they have to get across the country to make it. They need someone to get them there. I won’t tell more here because it would be spoiler. Premise is not only thing reminding Road Warrior and Fury Road. To be honest references weren’t too obvious until protagonists were chased by two different gangs. It lasts only for that chase and comic gets back to be Frostbite soon after it.
If Mad Max on Ice sounds interesting this is comic for you. It is not copy of Mad Max or try too much being one. It has more science fiction and noir elements. Jason Shawn Alexander’s art will make me return to this comic many times in future. I will check his other work. His art could make lesser story worth reading. This one has good story to be told with great art. If I wanted to nitpick I would say this could have been more hard science fiction. Frostbite disease could have been made more realistic and one vehicle moves bit too fast to make story move forward. Story could have been easily written differently without need of too fast vehicle. Those are minor issues on otherwise engaging comic. Frostbite became one of my all time favorite comics.
