I didn’t know what picture to have in Frank Herbert’s Dune 7 post. Couldn’t use cover as basis because the book doesn’t exist. Decided to try to draw something when Facebook went down for several hours. What I managed to do was quite ok for my skill levels. Spent lot of time learning to draw last spring. Still remembered some of that. Didn’t try anything too hard. Just sandworm on desert. Because it turned out ok I try to draw images more often. It was plan all along to have own visual style for this site and everything I do.
I want to develop simple but expressive style. Something minimal like Mike Mignola. I didn’t like his style at first but when I read Hellboy I learner to love his art. He is master expressing the mood with few elements. I don’t try to copy his style. Just learn how get message through with as little elements as possible and make it look good. I still have long way to go and don’t know where I end up. I just try to find something that works for me. One thing I need to learn is to use much more layers. I don’t spend time on cleaning images I don’t publish. It would have been easier to clean this picture if I had few layers more.
Got back to Udemy’s courses. I stopped doing those when started to ride more for this year’s Kilometrikisa. This year was good year to try to ride records thanks to work from home orders. Got 8336 kilometers in 145 days. Cycling took so much time and energy I didn’t feel like studying after work and rides. Now it is over and I have time to get back to other things. I managed to get to beginning of figure drawing course during spring. Drawing was on hold because I wanted to have figures and didn’t want to learn bad habits before doing the courses. Drawing objects in perspective is not my thing.
During spring I had one drawing course and one music course going on same time. Music course was really long guitar course. Probably putting that on hold and start shorter bass guitar course. After building pedalboard for bass I have enjoyed playing bass. I think it is better to do bass course or courses first and move to guitar and more complex lessons later. Bass courses have more playing with music than guitar course I have. It should be more fun.
