I found cycling again this summer. I raced on road at the turn of the millennium. I didn't stop cycling after I stopped racing. It just didn't feel fun and I rode too hard remembering how fast I rode when I raced. After few weeks I was too tired to continue or pushed through over training symptoms until I hated cycling and didn't want to ride any more.
Something happened this summer. I didn't feel I had to ride faster. I felt I could ride fast enough and it was fun again. I am riding slowly but it doesn't feel too slow. I could ride correct speed based on my current form. This may not sound like big thing but it is. It has made riding bike fun again. So fun that I bought new bike.
When I saw fat bike first time I wondered why anyone would want one. Now when I have one I can under stand. It is fun. It is not harder to ride than mountain bike with cross country tyre pressures. Bigger tyres make it easier to ride over roots and provide enough suspension even without suspension forks.
Original plan wasn't to buy fat bike. I just wanted mountain bike without suspension fork. Fat bikes were only ones fitting the specification. There are full suspension fat bikes but most are still without suspension forks. When I learnt you should be able to ride on almost any terrain I knew I had to get one.
Only down side is that pedals are wider apart than in other bikes because of bigger tires. It takes bit getting used to if you ride other bikes too. It takes few kilometers to get used to when I ride fat bike after riding cyclo-cross bike and vice versa. Other than that I am happy with the bike.
